In order to be successful, every business needs a great leader. But everyone knows that – what people don’t know is that I like beer – I really do. So why not combine both? No, I’m not suggesting that you should drink beer at work, only that you can use the concept to better understand leadership. Author Kevin Eikenberry made a great analogy on how leadership is just like beer:
Leadership is just like beer
Beer is a pretty inclusive word: There are lots of different beverages that are truly beer – and there are lots of behaviors that are leadership
Beer is typically an acquired taste: I don’t know anyone who really had leadership figured out the first time they were in the position to lead
Different traditions and environments make beers different: Belgian beers are different from the beer brewed in Mexico or Japan.
Different ingredients make beers different: Ingredients make all the difference in beer – and not just the water. So it is with us as leaders
People often move from simpler beers to more complex ones over time: Leaders who are interested in the craft of leading typically graduate to more advanced techniques and subtle differences in approach as they mature in their roles.
Some people like some beers more than others: different leadership styles will fit different people
Beer is best in moderation: In the case of leaders, we must know when to stop leading and let others go.
“Every month when the mailings go out we get an influx of customers with their coupons. The comments from these new customers have convinced me that Moving Targets is a necessity not an expense!!”

“Year in and year out Moving Targets continues to be our most successful form of advertising. There is simply no better way to attract new customers to our business. In March it will be 10 years since we started doing business with Moving Targets. I personally feel that it is one of the best business moves we have ever made.”

“Your program is like being on ‘auto pilot’. It just goes out every month and generates new customers for me... so satisfied with the results.”

“Amazing results... the quality of customers we are gaining is amazing... These customers will also purchase other services from us...
This helps instill a trust in us with our new customers that doesn’t come from using any other marketing.”
